Aida de Jesus, often dubbed ‘the godmother of Macanese cuisine’ died on Wednesday, aged 105.

The founder of the famous restaurant Riquexo devoted her life to the development of fusion cuisine.

For over three decades, Aida de Jesus had a key role in passing on the traditions of the fusion Macanese cuisine at her restaurant Riquexó, located close to the Flora Garden. Until very recently, she still oversaw operations at the iconic restaurant.

In several interviews, Aida de Jesus recalled the times when she spoke Patua with her grandmother. In those times, around 100 years ago, the dialect was not allowed to be used in schools.

There were 100 years in age difference between the oldest and youngest fourth generation De Jesus.
